The Daily Living Death of Orange Broadband
Submitted by Tim on Thu, 15/03/2007 - 13:40.I just wanted to jot this down somewhere so I could look at it and see that it was really real.
January 18th: BT told of imminent move.
January 26th: Moved into new flat.
February 7th: BT finally switch off existing Talk Talk line in new flat (belonging to previous owner), and install our new BT line.
February 9th: Orange called exactly 48 hours later, as advised, to get broadband from old flat attached to new line.
Waited. Rang Orange, automated message says there's a 10-15 working day wait on connections. Waited some more.
Celebrity Big Brother - the Racism Row
Submitted by Tim on Thu, 18/01/2007 - 11:45.I hate myself for this after the show got off to such a bad start, but I'm now fascinated by what's going on in the house.
He is a Cheeky Boy, he is a Cheeky Boy
Submitted by Tim on Thu, 21/12/2006 - 11:25.A fantastic year for the Liberal Democrat party has now been capped off with the news that Lembit Opik, the very sensible MP who split with celebrity fiance Sian Lloyd to date "Cheeky Girl" Gabriela Irimia, intervened in Parliament to prevent his new girlfriend being deported.
The Cheeky Girls are famous for their 2001 hit Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum), but were nevertheless threatened with deportation to Romania in August this year. Opik allegedly approached both the immigration minister and a Labour MP for help on the matter, but senior party members claim he acted "with total propriety" - I'm sure he'd have done the same for anyone.
Disney fiddles around with the Famous Five
Submitted by Lisa on Tue, 19/12/2006 - 08:15.Stupid Disney (who i normally love as they make the ideal length films) are messing around with the Famous Five books. They are going to re-make them and change everything! They won't even be called Julian, Dick, Anne and George - but Cole, Dylan, Jo and Allie no doubt Timmy the dog will be called Brooklyn or some such nonsense.
I read somewhere a while ago that they have changed all the books to make them more poitically correct. I think that is AWFUL. I know the books can me rascist and sexist and a lot of other ists but they represent a time, the attitudes, morals and expectations of that time. Are we going to re-write history to rid it of sexism and rascism? Are we going to pretend that Hitler loved Jewish, Gay and disabled people? I grew up reading the Famous Five books over and over again and I do not consider myself to hold Enid Blyton's values or attitudes except for loving my friends and family, giving everyone a chance and honesty - what's the harm in that?
Crap Day
Submitted by Lisa on Thu, 30/11/2006 - 08:51.I am having such a crap morning. First of all I realise my tax disk hasn't arrived that I ordered on 19/11 and is due in my car tomorrow! So I've rung the DVLstupidloadofuselesstwatsA and they are sending out a duplicate for it. Apparently if I get caught by the police it's up to their discretion as to whether they charge me or not for not having a tax disk. The WORST thing is though, it's my fault as i should have realised sooner it hadn't come but i forgot. I can't remember too much of my law A level but don't think forgetfulness is any kind of defence for lack of a taxdisk. I'll probably be imprisoned or something to make an example of me ![]()
