The Site

It's mad isn't it. I don't know.

Faceboinng?

So despite hating everything Facebook stands for and making a principled withdrawal from the social nightmare earlier this year, I'm now experimenting with a new Drupal for Facebook module that could mean Planet Boinng going live as a Facebook application Smiling

It's early days yet, and not at all working, but in theory Facebook users (ie, the entire world, but more probably just you lot) should be able to add Planet Boinng as an app and start posting to your blog etc all from within Facebook and your profile pages.

Game on

Games are nice aren't they? A little something to while away the time, a gentle amusement, a bit of fun.

Once upon a time Planet Boinng had a games room, full of such fun-sized entertainments, and now those happy days are back again - yes, the games room has returned. Pootle on over to http://www.boinng.com/games to pick from a growing collection of java-based goodies, including a couple of old favourites from the olden days. Enjoy Smiling

The new look for Boinng..?

Signing On

I can't do it. I don't even care that there's only three people reading this, I can't kill the site! I've been its sworn protector for far too long already. Facebook can swallow the rest of the internet, but it won't have boinng - not now, not ever.

So there's a new plan, and it's this - the site will still be going away for a while, it'll be getting a new coat of paint and will be having a good think about itself and its general behaviour, and then it will come back. It may well come back to an empty room, but it will be back nonetheless.

I'm not setting any dates for this - it might be tomorrow, it might be the day after, but it'll be soon - and for the rest of your life.

Is this the end?

Signing off

I think we've probably gone on as long (or longer) than we can, or should. If I leave the site hanging around much longer it'll reach it's ninth birthday in a few months, and then I'll feel compelled to cling on and let it see it's tenth, and then the next goal will be the twentieth, and so on. The thing is, it doesn't matter how much longer the site lasts if there's nobody here to see it.

Planet Boinng: actually dead, announcing nothing, not a sausage

In current news, there is no news, as for thirtieth time this year all news has been removed from the site. The news is gone, there is no news.

In other news, no news has materialised.

For an update on this news, please stare at the news, until there is some news.

Shop!

Well Christmas is only days away (approximately 83 as it happens) and in the recent spirit of increased commerce, I've reopened the amazing Boinng Shop over at http://www.cafepress.com/boinng - here you'll find an exciting range of desirable accessories for life, all sporting variations on the "classic" boinng logo.

This is all very exclusive gear, considering that only five people in the whole world even know Planet Boinng exists, and you won't find any of it in C&A. Not this year, anyway.

The Upgrade

So anyway, on Friday morning I decided to upgrade the site to the latest (stable) release of Drupal, going from 4.7.7 to 5.2 and taking all of the various modules we use with me. 5.x has actually been around for quite a while, but the thought of updating everything had me veering towards the dark side of sticking with what I knew worked already... the problem with that, is what happened to the old Postnuke-based site.

I know...

Everything's weird (especially in Internet Explorer, where most of the site is rendered in font size minus a million) and the site upgrade has gone a bit wrong - I'm working on fixing things and will get it sorted ASAP, maybe even going back to the backup if necessary.

UPDATE: everything should be fine now...
