Submitted by Tim on Mon, 17/03/2008 - 11:27.The old Savoy cinema in Petersfield will shortly be no more. The cinema, built in the thirties, closed to cinema-goers in 1986 - but it was given a new lease of life in the nineties when it opened as a nightclub, first under the Oscars name, and then later as Vertigo - the only nightclub in Petersfield and the surrounding area. Ultimately it became a victim of its own success, as its owners decided the proven market for a nightclub and leisure facilities demanded a new, modern, purpose built development (complete with the inevitable sound-proofed flats above).
