Wee Wii
It's kind of interesting that while the latest "next gen" console war was largely predicted to be a straight duel between the two hardware heavyweights, Sony's PS3 and Microsoft's Xbox360, it's actually the relatively underpowered little Nintendo Wii that looks set to take the winner's belt, at least in terms of sales. The dimunitive console, which is technically behind both of its competitors in terms of graphics and general gaming power, is the fastest selling of all three consoles, and is already within a whisker of beating Xbox sales worldwide, despite being released more than a year later than its rival. The struggling PS3 hasn't put up much of a fight at all, with sales of less than half the Wii.
Nintendo haven't lead the home console market in this way since the days of the SNES, and the success of the Wii and it's motion-based approach to gaming seems to have opened up a new seam in the gaming market that its musclebound competition have failed to tap. The Wii is fresh. It is
The Wii is fresh. It is innovative. It is cheap. The PS3 is powerful, but it is effectively an upgrade rather than a new approach. It is also far overpriced. And the Xbox 360? The term "red ring of death" is not one that sounds appealing.
I haven't been a console game since the PS2 I briefly owned, but if I were to get back into it, Nintendo would have my cash.
wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!
having burnt out not one, not two, but THREE PS2s in the last few years, i am quite leary of the PS3 and it's outrageous price tag. and i have heard tons of horror stories about the red ring of death (altho for some reason i thought it was a blue ring, but whatever...), which also makes me quite weary of the 360. i have had occasion to play the wii, which i found very innovative not only in control design (look ma! no carpal tunnelly wrist from playing too many hours of console games!) but in game design as well. if i had the money to invest in a console at the moment, wii would have my bucks. if i could get ahold of one. those things FLY off the shelves!

I want a Wii but really can't justify spending all that money on one
..
I have the exact same problem

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!
Sorry, have to do it. I'm such a child.
I want a Wii too. It's the only way I can think of to get some exercise!
