Signing off
I think we've probably gone on as long (or longer) than we can, or should. If I leave the site hanging around much longer it'll reach it's ninth birthday in a few months, and then I'll feel compelled to cling on and let it see it's tenth, and then the next goal will be the twentieth, and so on. The thing is, it doesn't matter how much longer the site lasts if there's nobody here to see it.
So, to cut a long story short, I'm closing Planet Boinng. There are only a small handful of people coming here now, and there's little chance of that changing in the future. The internet has changed, and grown out of sites like this - little sites with whacky names and a dozen members. Everybody's left already.
I've had fun over the last nine years, and I hope you (that is, the you that's probably not here to read this) enjoyed yourselves too. We've had some good times, and they won't be forgotten - I'll probably leave the site here in some archived form, that you can still browse when nostalgia kicks in. As for me, I'll probably take a break from hosting a site for a while, but no doubt I'll start tinkering with something new eventually. See you on the other side.
I can't say I haven't seen
I can't say I haven't seen this coming. You're a conscientious webmaster, Tim. I expected nothing less than a bold and public statement, rather than letting our beloved planet fade into nothingness slowly.
I hope the other side is green and fruitful. You have a lot to offer, and I would like to be a part of it, if there is such a possibility.

However as already stated it wasn't like this wasn't on the cards. I look forward to seeing whatever site is conjured up next and look forward to it. As ever, all the best
edit: I have thought of moving my blog to pntaylor and possibly closing down fluffles slowly but that may take effort and have objections
So instead for future reference my blog will be moving to blog.pntaylor.net just a question of getting round to it

i guess that really depends on what you all want me to do with them. i had half an idea that i'd pickle the place in some way and leave it all intact, but static, possibly behind some kind of curtain to take it out of the public (google) eye. of course deleting the whole shebang is also an option, but a bit drastic. as far as the gallery goes, it'll stay in some form if only for my personal pics, but if there's stuff you want taken out just say the word.
Personally, I'd like my blog
Personally, I'd like my blog to stay, but if it all turns static I'd also appreciate a pwd protection of some sort. Same is true for the pics of my trips to England / Paris. And if you're not able to keep it all, give me/us some time to backup

Timeframe
I don't want to rush anyone (or me) so Boinng will continue for the rest of this month, but vanish on the first weekend in Feb. It might go away completely for a little while, and then reappear in some archive form after that, but there'll always be something at boinng.com.
Something else may or may not appear somewhere else...
