Over on Outpost Gallifrey (geeky Doctor Who news site, if you can imagine such a thing) they're reporting not only outstanding ratings for Saturday's series four finale, but a fantastic AI or Appreciation Index score as well:
Quote:
The final episode of series four, Journey's End, was the most-watched programme of the past week, according to unofficial overnights. Although the men's final at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships peaked with an audience of 12.7 million, the average for the whole programme was only 7.4 million. If this is confirmed when final figures are published by BARB in 9 days' time then Journey's End will have achieved the highest chart position in the Doctor Who's history. The Appreciation Index for the programme was once more 91. It's virtually unprecedented that the most watched programme of the week should also score one of the highest appreciation figures, for mainstream television, in broadcasting history.
The AI is based on the responses of a sample of 15,000 viewers, and is scored from 1-100 - with the average being just 77, and 85 or over regarded as excellent - so 91 is a pretty good way to end the series ![]()
