Sony Ericsson
Decisions...
Submitted by Tim on Fri, 15/06/2007 - 09:35.Well after having the very nice M600i as my current giant phone since November, I've naturally been planning my next upgrade. I thought Sony Ericsson had made it easy for me when they announced the P1i.
P1iThe P1i is a new P series phone carrying on the legacy of the old P800, P910 etc but in an M600i-styled form, complete with the brilliant qwerty keyboard - it differs from the M600i with the addition of a 3.2mp camera (the M had none), Wifi, and more memory to run applications. Very nice, I thought.
Giant Phone 3.0 - Not Giant

The T28sRegular viewers will know I have a penchant for geeky phones, and Sony Ericsson's in particular. It all started off small, with the teeny tiny Ericsson T28, then got slighty bigger the next year with the T39 (which added mobile internet and something called "predictive text"), and then slightly bigger again with the T68i (with a 256 colour screen!) and then, wow. Suddenly I had a brick on my hands with the P800, and the Giant Phone was born.
It's not often that gadgets gets progressively bigger year on year - generally the trend runs the other way - but as massive as the P800 was, it was a fantastically advanced phone. Being Sony Ericsson's first UIQ Symbian device, it was as much PDA as smelling bone, with a lovely big touchscreen, handwriting recognition, and lots of great software that allowed you to knock up a spreadsheet, maintain a website, and play Lemmings all at the same time.
Sony Ericsson unveils 'Hermione' - the P990
Submitted by Tim on Mon, 10/10/2005 - 15:41.Long-time listeners will know I'm a big fan of my Sony Ericsson P800 (commonly known as the Giant Phone) - and now Sony Ericsson have finally lifted the thick veil of secrecy regarding their newest P-series smartphone, codenamed "Hermione". The new phone follows on directly from the previous family line of P800, P900 and P910i, but is not the P950 as previously thought - which must be a little gutting for the owners of "fan site" P950.com.The new model is actually called the P990, and as expected it's a Symbian device with the new UIQ3.0 interface. It boasts every kind of radio connectivity you can imagine, from 3G for high speed data, to Wi-fi, Bluetooth, and even FM. There's a two megapixel camera with autofocus for stills and video, along with another for videocalling, and 80mb of user memory - with an MS Duo slot allowing up to 4GB of extra storage.
The all-new Giant Phone
Submitted by Tim on Wed, 05/10/2005 - 23:41.I speak not of the Giant Phone of today, but the Giant Phone of tomorrow, for leaked pictures and details are now available on the next UIQ smartphone from Sony Ericsson - latest in the "P Series" line which started with my very own P800.
The P950i (codename "Hermione") is actually a touch smaller than it's giant ancestors, but adds 3G, Wi-fi, and a 2mp camera into the mix. An official announcement is expected in October, with it going on sale in February '06. I am destined to own one...
Geeky Newsflash
Submitted by Tim on Tue, 20/04/2004 - 01:07.Man gets new Phone
Submitted by Tim on Fri, 06/12/2002 - 01:07.I'm following Cati into this so it's not really a big deal, but I've swapped my Ericsson T39 for a T68. Still on trusty Vodafone, the phone was free on contract; I just have the slight inconvenience of changing number. So to speed things up, my new number is (yeah, right..)I know what you're thinking, Cati & Giz- that T68 is ok, but it's not a T68i with all those spiffy extra features and working software is it? Well, actually it is. The kindly Carphone Warehouse have flash upgraded the software to the newest T68i version, meaning that aside from the traditional Ericsson exterior my phone is a T68i. And that suits me fine, since I'm an Ericsson nut and I'm happy to have the last true Ericsson designed phone on the outside (but running Sony bugfree software on the inside). I think the T68i looks a bit girly, but I don't suppose that's a problem for Sunshine..
My turn now
Submitted by Sunshine on Fri, 06/09/2002 - 22:45.You may remember a while ago, Tim making certain people jealous by telling us all about his new Ericsson T39 mobile phone. Well, now it's my turn. I'm too tired to tell you all about my new T68i, so go and take a look at it in full colour glory here (second from the left in the row of phones)
I got a rather sweet deal, but I'm too tired to tell you more than that I paid less than a third of the normal price for phone+mp3 player for phone+3 months insurance for phone... so yes, I was happy
be happy with me ![]()
Full 256 Colour Display
Submitted by Giz on Tue, 23/10/2001 - 15:36.So, at the moment Tim & me (yes I know I'm unoriginal) have got the cool Ericsson T39. Great you all say, we can both stop talk about how good, cool, innovative the damn thing is. You'd be right too.. if it wasn't for the fact that I spotted this whilst browsing Ericsson, the T68.Yup this lil beauty knocks 7 bells outta the T39 with oodles of gizmos etc, which, as the title suggests is a full 256 colour display. However that's not all and I'm not going to tell you either... go look and be amazed!
