i've given this one a "good"

i've given this one a "good" - it was quite good fun and I enjoyed the sontarans, but while i'm usually quite forgiving of these things, the whole death by satnav idea was pretty silly, and a little too similar to the Cybus industries headsets of series 2, and the Archangel phone network of series 3 - at this rate, surely all that the likes of UNIT or Torchwood need to monitor is the pages of Stuff Magazine, since all new gadgets are clearly brought here by aliens bent on world domination.

And remind me - why would UNIT (an alien-fighting organisation so convinced of ATMOS's danger that they stormed the factory) be driving around in a fleet of ATMOS-equipped jeeps? but I digress...

Plot silliness aside, it was good seeing Mike from the Young Ones bring the chief Sontaran to life, and I really enjoyed them as an old-school baddie. The whole episode had a satisfying old-who feel to it, which was nice, and the cliffhanger was decent so I'm still looking forward to next week Smiling

.

Well, that saved me writing a review of my own!

Except I'd have said 'fair to middling', it was better than 'fair' but not as good as 'good'.
I have, however, selected 'good'.

Still liking Donna as the voice of reason. Unlike Rose and Martha, she questions everything on a human level, especially everything The Doctor plans to do. Instead of "Oh, ok, fair enough, if that's what you want to do, you're so amazing, I love you....etc", it's, "You ruddy what? You want to do what? You can't do that, it's not right....etc".

Hope next week's is better......

I thought the Sultana's were

I thought the Sultana's were very silly. Silly then and silly now. I'm not sure what it is they are after, I don't think the plot gripped me enough to really care.

I assume you mean the world dying rather than the father. Coz some kind of Sonic device could probably break the window easily. Or a rock.

It suffered from the same problem that a lot of the who two parters have that the pace slows down in the last quarter, rather than speeding up to a resolution.

Yep, it was more the world

Yep, it was more the world being gassed than Wilf's plight, which as you say was a bit implausible. A lot of the episode seemed to revolve around the idea that there's no way out of a locked car, which I found a bit distracting and silly throughout - and the pacing at the end was a bit off. A long time seemed to pass just between Wilf getting locked in, the gas threat becoming apparent, and the credits actually rolling... certainly plenty of time to find a brick anyway.

A shame really, definitely the weakest so far.

I couldn't work out why the sonic screwdriver couldn't break the window. It was my first thought!

Or, indeed, a brick!

Well, an elbow would

Well, an elbow would probably be the first port of call. I did find that distracting.

I liked the Sontarans a lot more than I thought I was going to. I gave this episode a "Very Good" - I preferred it to the season premier but didn't like it as much as the other two.
