Obligatory Iphone Thread
So come on then, now that the o2 deal's been announced, who's going to be queuing on 9th November to get one?
In the UK they'll be costing £269 to buy, subject to a £35pm contract, that gets you (blah blah) minutes and (blah blah) texts (who cares) and a whole lot of unlimited internet, including free wifi access from Cloud-owned hotspots.
Me, I'm not interested, because contrary to certain reports we're getting the bog standard US version which looks even more outdated now than when it was released in the US earlier this year - no picture messaging, crappy camera, ringtones you have pay for, slow (non-3G) internet - phooey. Old news. Next year's will make it look really stupid.
I'm off to get me a P1i, although oddly and coincidentally I'll be going to o2 for that after years of loyalty to Vodafone, because Vodafone have decided not to stock it - as if not having the iphone wasn't crap enough for them. Ta ta to them, then.

Yeah, I'll be giving it a miss. I was originally excited about this - but the more I stew on it, the more prototypey the iPhone seems.

Not considering it in the slightest. I quite fancy a Sony Ericsson, but I can't really justify getting one for at least a year yet.

I'm simply not interested. All I want is a phone with a decent camera, Mp3 & Radio, that's it.

It's a funny old tactic though, aiming to really p*ss off some of your most valued customers! Seems like another good reason to get an ordinary phone that the networks will generally allow you to unlock without destroying the thing... (assuming they come locked at all)

Yup. I still think it'll sell like hotcakes though. Just because it has an 'i' in front of the name
Mmmm hotcakes.

I'm not so sure... it'll sell, but the way it's being pitched as such a high-end, expensive proposition in a country that's used to freebie contract handsets - I think that will put huge numbers off. It's being sold at a level usually reserved for really high-class smartphones and the like, but it's not a smartphone, and won't be of any interest to the business/professional market, and I'm just not sure that the average (or even above-average) Ipod buyer is going to spend £269 and commit themselves to a lenghthy and pricey contract at the same time. Especially not when, if they just want to replace their Ipod, they can now get the nearly identical but non-phone Ipod Touch for much less - and a nice new freebie phone to compliment it.

Much more swayed by the new Cybershot Sony Ericsson. To be honest I'd rather have the iPod touch, all the cool shinyness of the iPhone without the phone contract.

Well after swearing blind I was going to get the Sony Ericsson P1i as my next phone, being the obvious upgrade from my current M600i, I've ended up going at a completely random tangent and switched to Windows Mobile instead. This time next week I'll have an HTC Tytn II in my pocket, sporting GPS, Wifi, HSDPA (extra high speed 3G) and lots more smartphone goodness.
I was going to have to switch to O2 from Vodafone to get the P1, as Voda don't stock it, but when I tried to cancel my contract Voda got a bit upset and gave me a really good deal on the Tytn II (or Vodafone V1615 as they've branded it). The V1615 is costing me just £50 (compared to £80 for the P1 on O2), and not only do I get to stay on my nice and cheap £25 contract with Vodafone instead of a £35 equivalent on O2, they're actually knocking it down by £5 - and it's just another 12 month contract rather than 18. Given that the V1615 aces the P1 in just about every area, I couldn't really turn it down. I think they only offered it because they're DESPERATE to keep people from jumping to the Iphone - in fact, even though I was cancelling in order to get a different phone altogether, I got a letter from a Vodafone customer adviser saying "I'm sorry you're cancelling to get an iphone..." going on to give ten reasons why the iphone was no good!
It'll be a leap for me from four years of Sony Ericsson UIQ smartphones to Windows Mobile 6, but I'm looking forward to playing around with all the freeware that's out there...

I'd go for one of the Walkman phones, good for music and they usually have good cameras too... and I think they're all 3G now so fine for the internet (in teeny mashed up form).
Or you can go for a proper phone like my Tytn II, my newest obsession. It's got a good camera, Windows Media Player built in, and it'll connect to anything, including free wifi wherever it can find it - it's the next best thing to an entire PC in your pocket. Weighs a bit like an entire PC in your pocket, mind

The walkman phones are pretty good, but most other Sony Ericsson and Nokia phones these days have mp3 player apps on them so I'm not sure what sets them apart. Sony Ericsson K-series phones also have super spiffy cameras in them (better than walkman phones).

I thought Tim had been taking his directions from his phone for years. I remember him nearly having an aneurysm once because I hit him with his own phone. That was when they were still the size of a shoebox.
So, do you have to email him to tell him dinner's ready and such?
