London victim's compensation row

I find this very sad - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4741579.stm

It seems like whenever victims of anything like this are offered any form of compensation, it's decried as a \"pittance\" - it's never enough. But surely it's never going to be enough, is it? It's not as if the government (or, more accurately, the public) could ever truly compensate anyone for this sort of loss, no matter how many thousands or millions are offered.

It's right that people should receive help, but I'm not sure compensation is even the right word - it's not as if the government were responsible for this, or need to compensate anyone for their own actions. £11,000 may not be a fortune, and it's certainly not a life, but it's something.

I agree. I'm surprised this is being talked about so soon after the event, but if I'd lost anyone in it, I'd still be trying to grieve for them rather than worrying about any payout.
