i always forget...

we're all forgetful sometimes. what are some things you can NEVER remember?

like me for example...

i always forget that thursday is pub-quiz night...

and i can never remember what goes into pineapple upside-down cake...

and i always forget to roll up the windows in my car, until it's already started raining!

I can never remember that

I can never remember that rhyme with the months, you know 30 days has September, January and November all the rest have 31 except February alone which has 28, 29 each leap year.

As you can see i make up the months in the rhyme - i have no idea!

Honestly now...

erm, January has 31. You

erm, January has 31.
You just count, start with January and 31, and shift each one in a different column:

31 ------------------ 30 or less

January --------- February
March --------- April
May --------- June
July ---------

and since the summer is so nice, August is 31 too

August --------- September
October --------- November
December

and as you can see, since we all love the holidays too, December and January both have 31 as well...

Tim's picture

So.. starting with January,

So.. starting with January, every odd month has 31 days, and every even month has 30 or less, apart from August and December.

Hmm..

Nope, I'm not going to remember that either!

ok, so, have you tried the

ok, so, have you tried the "hand trick"? This is going to be difficult explaining in english.
Er. You make fists of your both hands (thumb tucked in fist) and put them next to each other. You start with the pink of your left hand at the outmost left, and count january. At the beginning of that pink there's this.. er.. higher bit, yes? Between two fingers it's lower (is this called the "nuckle or something? i've no idea). So you count february in the lower bit. March is higher again, April is lower, May is higher. June is lower, July is higher, and then you're finished with your left hand, as we're not using the thumbs. You continue with the index finger (?) of your right hand, and at this point it's high again : August. September is lower again, October high, November low, December high, ending on the ring finger.

It's actually very easy when you just do it...

that's exactly how i

that's exactly how i remember Sofie, with the knuckles. except that i do it one-handed. and i start with my index/pointer finger and double up july/august on the pinky. then it ends on the middle finger. my dad taught me this when i was just a tiny thing, probably 5 or 6. and it's been the ONLY way i can remember.

Wow, all this work just to figure out how many days are in a month? Why does February get shafted anyway?
