Funny old bit of news today - the website Digital Spy has been bought out by a big magazine company - the publisher of titles like Elle, Red, Inside Soap etc.

I've been on the DS forums since 2002, when it was little more than a geeky messageboard with some news tacked on, but recent years have seen the site really expand into a lot more general showbiz news (originally it was quite specific to digital TV in the UK, hence the name) and I suppose all the soap news and Big Brother coverage probably gels quite well with the values of Inside Soap and the like.

Bit of a shame to see the site lose its independence though, and put its geekier past behind it. The new owners would do well to remember that the DS forums are what have really driven and maintained the site's growth, and that community will need some nurturing.
