what seemed to be the problem?

...general ennui and lethargy? I confess myPetersfield has lost a bit of momentum recently, and is just ticking over. Going to have to do something new with it though now that Frontpage is unsupported and soon to be late-and-unlamented. Am being urged to try Joomla, and given that I don't do much tinkering under the bonnet with the code anyway, wondered if it might be an idea... maybe an easy way to refresh the site and introduce some new and more collaborative elements... anyone out there got any experience with this?

basic ennui really, i don't

basic ennui really, i don't have so much time to add content these days, and the facebook's of this world seem to be taking everyone else's time. But, I'm stubborn, so this place is still here anyway, and staying Smiling

Joomla is a content management system not unlike the one we use here (Drupal) - it's apparently quite user friendly and everything, though I've not tried it myself. Is it something your host is offering to install for you?

numpties need not apply

er no, it's something that was recommended by someone at my place of paid employment. Had a look today but regrettably, it appears to be way not user-friendly enough for me. Had to install XAMPP first (Apache and stuff), which went OK and made me feel pretty swell, but installing Joomla itself was completely mystifying. I think I'm really looking for clueless-numpty-friendly - where you download stuff, click on the thing that ends in '.exe' and presto - there's a nice GUI for you to work with - and this ain't it. Think I'll take a look at Dreamweaver...

Yes Jayne, you do don't you?

Yes, I do.

I should talk to yerself if I were you. All these 'intellectual' types are ignoring you because you're silly.

I will, thanks for the advice Julian.

I think it's a conceptual leap - like most content management systems, once you've gone through the pain of installing it (which is more to do with installing it on (or as) your website rather than on your own PC - it'll make your life a whole lot easier than Dreamweaver or any similar package ever could. You have to get it working, and you have to configure and add whatever options you want (like forums etc), and of course you have to get it looking the way you want with an appropriate theme etc - but if you take the time to learn and understand all these steps, what you'll end up with is a fully interactive, professional site that's as easy to update as filling in a form. But, there is a bit of a learning curve there...

Have you seen Helvetica? I saw it last year, and it's actually quite good.

But the poster was absolute genius.
