Blake's 7 to return

Anyone here a fan of Blake's 7?

Talk of a revival has been going on ever since the original series finished more than twenty years ago, but it really does seem to be about to happen now - sort of. No doubt spurred on by the success of Doctor Who (featuring the other famous Terry Nation creation of the Daleks) a new series of Blake's 7 is apparently going to be produced - but as only as an audio drama. The news is on Digital Spy here - http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds40681.html

Doctor Who also continued its existence as a series of audio dramas before the BBC finally brought it back to the small screen, and I can't help wondering if the producers of B7 are hoping to repeat the same trick - use the audios to build back up a following, hone a few storylines and attract a few more writers, and before you know it - a fully crewed Liberator could be cruising in to fill the next Who-shaped gap in the saturday night schedules.

Personally I'd be very pleased to see it - anyone else?

With the exception of Dr Who

With the exception of Dr Who i really don't see why they keep bringing things back - why not spend money on new dramas/sci-fi shows like Torchwood for example. It's like music, Take That are back, East 17 are back, All Saints are back - did these people not split up for a reason? like telly, aren't these shows ended for a reason? I think people are confusing nostalgia with actual good tv programmes.

Anyway, didn't they all die at the end of Blake's 7 or am i getting confused with something else?

I don't agree with it either way and i'm taking a stance here and now! Eye-wink

Normally I'd agree with you,

Normally I'd agree with you, there are far too many remakes and revivals going on especially in Hollywood, and in music - I mean acts like All Saints and East 17 were of their time and done and dusted by the time they broke up originally... I'm sick of the big film remakes too because they're getting lazier all the time and adding nothing to the originals, just recycling the same ideas because it's easier than coming up with their own.

Doctor Who is very different because to some extent it never went away - rather than remaking it, they've taken the same characters and concepts that have already survived umpteen previous regenerations and brought them back again for new adventures, in the same way that other enduring heroes like Superman or Batman keep coming back in various forms...

I suppose I'd like to say that Blakes 7 could be done in the same way - with those same characters brought back for new adventures - but you're right of course, they were all killed off at the end of the last series (in 1981) and the iconic Liberator was even destroyed a series or so before that, so for it to come back now it would have to be a "reboot" - acting as if the old show never existed. I would like to see it happen though. With modern production values and a contemporary take on things, it could still be a great show in its own right... it's fair to say the original wasn't perfect, but it had a lot of good elements that could be built on and improved in a new "re-imagining"... the Americans managed it to great success with Battlestar Galactica, and the BBC have an opportunity to do the same here I reckon.
