Huzzah for capitalism

18 June...
"Here, have a job. Only a 6 month contract, mind. You've not actually done a days work in 6 months, after all - not too sure about you, sonny jim"
...6 weeks goes by...
26 July...
"Please, please say you want to stay with the company. Have a permanent contract with full medical benefits. Have a wage rise. Have all the training you could possibly want, free. Pretty please?"
Now all I have to do is keep convincing them I know what I am doing...
Finished Deathly Hallows at 2pm - do I win a prize?
Submitted by D-man on Sat, 21/07/2007 - 13:06.After an epic 4 hour reading session, battling a hangover, I finished the last HP book. Yay !
My geek-fu is strong today.
Bah !
Submitted by D-man on Thu, 05/07/2007 - 17:12.So, there I am this morning, suited and booted on my way to work, in Rommy, my lovely lovely R-reg Mondeo, and a lorry driver claims he 'never saw me' and that's a good enough reason for him to have rammed me.
Gorram it ! She's got a big dent in her door, she's suffering from shock (just trying to get her up to 40mph this eve was a struggle). So unfair. I only got her 3 weeks ago.
She used to be such a vivacious girl, you'd let the turbo kick in and she growled like a silvery panther. Now, she's a whimpering mess.
Humph.
End of the line, all change
Submitted by D-man on Sun, 17/06/2007 - 14:27.Well, it appears that it's all over. No more skiving for me, I have managed to land a job (quite a nice one actually !!), and so will experience the joys of wages and waking up at early o'clock every day. Not worked for 6 months - so not loving the idea of hard work !!
In other news, my beloved Ibby has proposed, and so I am going to be a blushing bride next year ! Someone has finally decided they can tame the wild man of rock that I am (ahem) and settle down.
So, all in all, all things considered - fantastic !
Howdy from California !
Submitted by D-man on Sun, 15/04/2007 - 00:03.Hello from San Francisco !
I started off in Los Angeles - the hostel was right next to Hollywood Boulevard, so I got the chance to have a walk along the Walk of Fame every time I ventured outside. Very strange to be walking along and suddenly have a famous name catch your eye on the ground...Elvis, Jimi Hendrix, Walt Disney...even the Rugrats have their own star !
Freaky!
Submitted by D-man on Sun, 08/04/2007 - 07:20.I was actually in downtown LA today when this was going on, and didn't realise what the hell it was about! All the signs I saw were in Spanish !
Bula from Fiji !
Submitted by D-man on Wed, 04/04/2007 - 05:30.Hello from the sunny shores of Fiji !
One thing they forgot to mention when I arrived was that Fijian insects like to pick a foreigner, and then devour them over the course of a week. Guess who got lucky? I think I have been targetted by every mosquito and sandfly on the islands.
Still, never mind - the scenery makes up for it - Fiji is absolutely stunning. The place where I am staying is right on the beach, and has sunshine all day. Apart from the 2 hours every day, starting at about 2 pm, where it absolutely tips it down with rain - you can almost set your watch by it !
Everything's shiny, Cap't, not to fret...

Kiwis and national insanity
Submitted by D-man on Tue, 27/03/2007 - 00:43.I have come to a conclusion about New Zealanders - if there is any activity that is remotely dangerous, or risky to life and limb, Kiwi's will embrace it, make a sport out of it, and then charge people to do it. Bungee jumps, skydives, base-jumps - these people will do anything. Well, I suppose their entire country is made of volcanos, it would give people a love of danger !
