All About Boinng

Everything you never wanted to know about this topsy-turvy mixed up place called Boinng.

What is Planet Boinng?

Planet Boinng began life back in April 1999 as a simple homepage, created by a geek called Tim Cook. That was back in the days when it was "cool" just to have a page on the web. Well, cool if you were a geek anyway.

A Not-Very-Brief History of Boinng

Boinng has been spinning headlong into the millenium, and out the other side, since 1st April 1999. It is designed and produced by Tim Cook and members of the Boinng Collective.

PC Format Gallery Award - August 1999

Way back in August 1999, when the site was very young indeed, we won the first 'Gallery Award' ever handed out by top British nerdy-mag PC Format. Take a look..

Who the hell is Tim Cook?

Timothy Alexander Cook was born suddenly at about 2.30 in the afternoon of Friday 25th October 1974, in Hounslow, Middlesex, England. His mother was present at the birth- as was his father, who was reading an Isaac Asimov novel and making the prophetic decision that his new son should be the first man to set foot on Jupiter. Archived news reports of the time indicate how little media attention this momentous birth was given, presumably due to fear of causing panic in the populace.

Legalities

The legal stuff. Every site has to have it. Apparently it’s “the law” or something.

Ban this sick filth!

Mike managed to record this special TV documentary about Boinng, on its fifth birthday. I was very excited when I heard they were making this, but to be honest, maybe they were a bit harsh?

Internet Magazine - August 2000

The site featured in the Site Surveyor section of top British mag Internet Magazine in August 2000- pre PHP. It's a mixed review, but it's rounded off with the magic words "a fantastic site" and an overall score of 8/10.

The Petersfield Post article

Was this the height of our fame? No, thank god. But here it is anyway, the crappy publicity spread we managed to blag off local rag the Petersfield Post, back in December 1999.

Why register?

Why do anything in life. We all muddle through this crazy mixed up existence, struggling to find out who we are and why we are, what the point really is. Sometimes the point is Jaffa Cakes. Sometimes it’s a beach in Bournemouth, a happy dog, or perhaps a small child. Sometimes, just sometimes, it’s a website such as this.
